Softboards Au. Local
We thought we would do a blog post to show where we come from, South Australia.
There are some beautiful breaks for the Groms that are just beginning or a little more advanced all around South Australia stretching from the Fleurieu, Yorke to the Eyre Peninsula.
We are truly so lucky to have such pristine beaches and waves to surf across the state.
Local Designer/Photographer Kristen Cowell friend of Softboards Au. from @kenjo_studio has shared some surf pics from around the state of South Australia with us.

Your Surfworx Softboard and the SUN!
Living in Australia we all know just how harsh our sun can be!
Although every Surfworx board is certified tested under extreme heat conditions, it’s really important to be mindful of keeping your Surfworx softboard out of the DIRECT sunlight when not in use. This will help to protect your board from any irreversible damage.
Top tips
- Use a board bag when travelling with a softboard on the car roof
- Keep the softboard deck facing down, this will stop the wax melting
- Never leave your softboard in a hot car for long periods
And always remember to SLIP SLOP SLAP when out surfing, even on those overcast days that sun can still have some bite!
Surf Schools – is it worth spending the money on lessons?
Short answer is YES!
Working with a surf instructor through a Surf School can be really helpful when you are learning. Within your lesson they will teach you the basics and provide you with feedback throughout your lesson which allows for faster improvement! It is also a good opportunity to meet some friends to surf with in the future with similar surfing abilities.

Does my Softboard really need wax?
YES! Why you may ask? Using wax on your new softboard creates a better grip with you and your softboard equalling more successful waves! Woohoo!
There are loads of different ways to create those luscious lumps on your softboard but the main idea is to get an even distribution of wax on your deck under where your feet go! Typically, from the tail to just below the logo.
Here are some pictures of all the different ways we have waxed our Surfworx boards.
Other tips:
- Make sure you’ve bought the right temperature wax for the water where you will be surfing.
- A light wax of your softboard before every surf is a good idea!
Girls just wanna have Fun!
You only have to take a look out in the line up to realise that surfing is still a very male dominated sport!
We understand how intimidating it can be especially when you’re learning! So, we’ve put together a few tips and tricks to make it as easy and smooth as possible for you!
Tips and Tricks
- Choose the right equipment… softboards are ideal when you’re still learning, you’ll catch more waves and improve way quicker! Win!
- Who cares if you wipe out! Laugh it off and paddle right back out. Surfing isn’t supposed to be so serious!
- Stand up for yourself! Don’t let the old fogey drop in on you. You have every right to be surfing the same break.
- Surf with a friend! Don’t have many other Gurfer friends? Make a Facebook group and create your own tribe!
Just remember you have every right to be out there frothing as much as anyone else in the water. There are plenty of waves to go around!
